First Layer Not Sticking?

    The first layer is everything in 3D printing. Here's the complete troubleshooting guide — from Z-offset to bed surface — that actually fixes the problem.

    ⚡ Start Here: Most Common Fixes

    1. Check bed level — nozzle gap should be ~0.1mm (paper test)

    2. Lower Z-offset 0.05mm at a time until filament "squishes" onto bed

    3. Clean bed with 90%+ IPA — finger oils kill adhesion

    4. Increase bed temp (PLA: 60°C, PETG: 80°C, ABS: 105°C)

    5. Slow first layer to 15–20 mm/s

    Step 1: Bed Leveling & Z-Offset

    80% of first-layer adhesion problems come from incorrect nozzle height. Too high = filament doesn't stick. Too low = nozzle scrapes bed and clogs. The goal is a slight "squish" that bonds filament to surface.

    Paper test method:

    Home Z, slide a standard sheet of paper between nozzle and bed. You should feel slight resistance but can still move the paper. Repeat all 4 corners + center.

    Wear surface. Never print PETG directly on BuildTak — it fuses.

    Blue Painters Tape

    Emergency option for PLA. Refresh often — loses adhesion quickly.
