The Bambu Lab A1 Mini is an open-frame CoreXY printer with a 180×180×180mm build volume. It uses a direct drive extruder and supports the AMS Lite for up to 4-color printing. Because it's open-frame (no enclosure), it's excellent for PLA, PETG, and PLA variants — but not ideal for ABS, ASA, or Nylon.

Use only PLA or PETG in AMS Lite
The AMS Lite is designed for PLA and PETG. Silk PLA works in most cases. Avoid TPU (too flexible — it jams in the buffer), ABS, ASA, or Nylon.
Match brands and diameters
Mixing different brands in one multi-color print is fine as long as all spools are 1.75mm. Diameter inconsistency between brands causes the AMS to mis-feed.
Purge tower waste is normal
Multi-color prints generate a purge tower — a block of mixed filament that cleans the nozzle between color swaps. Budget 15-30% extra filament for multi-color jobs.
Bambu filaments need least calibration
Bambu Lab PLA/PETG have RFID chips that auto-load profiles in Bambu Studio. Third-party filaments work fine but require a manual profile or using the generic PLA/PETG preset.
